Design Brief- Pictographic MapJ
My company’s product, PictoMAP is all about making the life’s of travelers easier and less complicated. We would like you to adopt our product and help it in production and sales. Many international students come to Melbourne to live or for a holiday. Getting lost would be a regular occurrence for them as they are new and are in an unknown country. What would help them is a map to guide them around the city, but not an ordinary map it will be a map that can be used on their phones. This map will be different and inventive it will be a pictographic map. In other words the map will be graphical, pictorial and symbolic. This unique map will help individuals navigate around the city of Melbourne.
There will be a specific range of destinations that the map will have, this map will have two major focuses on destinations which include shopping centers and will show the nightlife by a few clubs in the city of Melbourne. The types will be Highpoint, Altona Gate, Werribee Plaza and clubs like AfterDark Social Club, Ladida and more. The product is aimed at both male and females between the ages of 18-25 years old. This interactive map will cost the buyer around $3-$4, this will fit into their individual income restraints.
The map will include well know symbols like arrows, stop signs and simple (line) pictures. The colour scheme of our product will be in the range of blues, purples, yellows and red. To make the map even more enjoyable to use it will make little sounds once the destination has been reached or if the person has taken the wrong turn they will also be alerted with a tone. Everyone of the targeted age group own phones and are consistently using them. This will map can be accessed on all types of phones so they will always have contact to it whenever they need it.
It is simple to use the individual types a destination in the program and even if they don’t know the place the map will also have a list of shopping centers/clubs. Once they do this then the PictoMAP, will calculate where the person is and from there the directions they need to take to go where they want. People will find out about this product in many ways, one will be by advertisement both print and on television.
