Fiary tale: The Princess and The Pea

Once upon a time there was a prince who wanted to marry a princess; but she would have to be a real princess. He travelled all over the world to find one, but nowhere could he get what he wanted. There were princesses enough, but it was difficult to find out whether they were real ones. There was always something about them that was not as it should be. So he came home again and was sad, for he would have liked very much to have a real princess.
One evening a terrible storm came on; there was thunder and lightning, and the rain poured down in torrents. Suddenly a knocking was heard at the city gate, and the old king went to open it.
It was a princess standing out there in front of the gate. But, good gracious! what a sight the rain and the wind had made her look. The water ran down from her hair and clothes; it ran down into the toes of her shoes and out again at the heels. And yet she said that she was a real princess.
Well, we'll soon find that out, thought the old queen. But she said nothing, went into the bed-room, took all the bedding off the bedstead, and laid a pea on the bottom; then she took twenty mattresses and laid them on the pea, and then twenty eider-down beds on top of the mattresses.
On this the princess had to lie all night. In the morning she was asked how she had slept.
"Oh, very badly!" said she. "I have scarcely closed my eyes all night. Heaven only knows what was in the bed, but I was lying on something hard, so that I am black and blue all over my body. It's horrible!"
Now they knew that she was a real princess because she had felt the pea right through the twenty mattresses and the twenty eider-down beds.
Nobody but a real princess could be as sensitive as that.
So the prince took her for his wife, for now he knew that he had a real princess; and the pea was put in the museum, where it may still be seen, if no one has stolen it.
There, that is a true story.

Peer Review Feedback- Natarjsha Jayde

http://natarjshajayde.blogspot.com/

I evaluated her rubbish fonts, cd cover and social conscience poster.( she didn't have a 'the dot is a line that went for a walk' assignment).

Question 1) Is there enough of a difference between formal and informal design?
For the Rubbish fonts thought the idea of using tea-bags was really good. I think that there was a difference between formal and informal. I can see this with how she uses the same material and she spaces the letters equally apart. So distance and proportion is used in her fonts. The white back drop makes the letters stand out and makes the the focal point. Her poster that showed the environmental and humanity factor about stopping poverty was well made. It was able to get her point across and the use of the map was great. It was very creative and thought it through well, it was pleasing to the eye and not harsh. In the poster there was balance and rhythm because she used the light blue colour throughout her work and balanced the heading at the top with the picture at the bottom.
The Cd cover that she made, was very well proportioned will the girl on both sides and the white strip in the middle broke up the the photos of the girl. There was a good amount of unity in the design the colour palette was used throughout and so was the style. The back of the cover was very good it was similar to the front in terms of the colours, fronts and images.

Question 2) Is the concept appropriate for informal?
Yes i think all her work was appropriate for the informal design because they showed the difference between all the different elements. Her awareness of poverty poster was easy to relate to because it is a well known issue and the hands with the maps on them were in the centre, giving the poster something for people to identify with as the map of the world involves everyone showing how we are apart of the issue.
The cover had concepts that showed culture and the statement that was used 'don't you wanna ride?' expressed what the music would be about and it was quite different and originally.

Question 3) Give suggestions as to how improvements can be made & how ideas can be developed further.
Improvements could be made with making the letters like 'b' neater. She could further the ideas buy adding some un-used tea bags and show the process of un-used to used teabag through her letters.
I really like the poster but i think that she could have made the black background less harsh, although it was striking compared to the light blue.
I think that she could take out or fix the strip that says culture because i don't think that it really helped the design but otherwise it was good.

Question 4) Rate the overall aesthetic and explain why? Strength: I liked the concept of using the tea bags. The poster was really good and it conveyed the message of reducing poverty. The cd cover was very good and i liked it, it was original and it was well thought-out, i haven't really seen a cover like that before and it was interesting and different. The design was fluent from the back and front, because she used the same girl and colour.

Weaknesses: Could have put an effect on the teabags , so edit them a bit. For the poster the black background was a bit to harsh for me. The cd cover could  have been edit a bit to take away the newspaper looking words that said 'culture' on the top of the cover. The back of the cover was a bit messy looking and confusing.
Opportunities: I think that if the fonts were photo-shopped a bit and changed the background colour it could look better. With the poster i think that she could have put a globe in the hands instead of the map being on the hands. The cd cover could be used today if it fixed the little details.
Threats: Throughout her assignments there wasn't any possibly threats that i could see. All her work was well produced and she obviously knows how to work photoshop.
Well-Done:)

This unique map will help individuals navigate around the city of Melbourne.

illustration with a social conscience

Nominated group: environmental crisis/ animal cruelty.

This is a poster that could be shown around the world. Remind people of what is going on, and make them more intrested in the issue.

Target audience: Organzisations, workplace and government. Give them a chance to change their actions, and help them fight animal abuse.

Target audience: Schools and homes. It is simple because children will focus on the un happy dog and want to know more about why it is sad. This is where the parents will educate them and focus on improving the problem.
